Sun Exposure Leads to Wrinkles
One of the most common causes of premature aging to the skin is overexposure to the sun. When someone spends a great deal of time in the sun without the proper protection, they are exposing themselves to harmful ultraviolet rays. The rays can reach the deepest layers of the skin, leading to painful and damaging sunburn. The burn will often cause wrinkles as it begins to heal. To avoid this, be sure to use a lotion with at least SPF 30 on a daily basis and avoid unnecessary exposure such as tanning beds.
A Sweet Diet
Everyone knows that it is a good idea to limit the amount of sugar they eat if they do not want to gain a great deal of weight. However, what many do not realize is that eating too much sugar can also lead to fine lines on the face. The body processes sugar through a process called glycation, which can weaken the body’s natural collagen and elastin. These are the proteins that keep skin smooth and strong over time. In addition, the glycation process releases other toxins that can lead to premature aging. Eating sugar in limited quantities can help avoid fine lines on the face at a young age.
Smoking Damages the Skin
Smoking cigarettes and other tobacco products is a poor health choice for a number of reasons. One of those, which many people do not think about, is that smoking causes premature wrinkles. One of the basic causes is that the physical act of smoking a cigarette promotes the appearance of fine lines around the mouth. More importantly, however, is that smoking narrows the blood vessels, making it difficult for important nutrients to reach the skin.
