Caring for your skin can be complicated, especially if your face tends to be drier or oilier than average. If you have tried several different routines and are still not getting the results you want, the problem might not be with your products. There are a few common mistakes that many people make without realizing they are damaging their faces.
Exfoliate Your Skin for Longer but Not Harder
Dermatologists recommend that you use an exfoliator on your skin once or twice per week. If you are doing this but are still experiencing irritation, you are most likely using your exfoliator as a scrub. While many of them do have course ingredients, such as salt or sugar, to help take away dead skin cells, it is dangerous to think of the product as a scrub. Rather than rubbing harder with your exfoliator, leave it on your face longer. You will get the same result without damaging your face.
Don’t Use a Mist Without a Moisturizer
Face mists have become a popular skin care product because they leave the face feeling healthy and refreshed on the go. However, if you are not following up your mist with a moisturizer, you are actually drying out your skin rather than moisturizing it. The air immediately starts to evaporate the water on your face, leaving it dry and prone to wrinkles and rough patches. Once you have misted, follow up immediately with a moisturizer to trap the hydration on your face and to get the full benefit of the product.
Apply Your Products in The Correct Order
You may spend months perfecting your routine but if you are not applying your products in the correct order, you are not going to get the results that you are looking for. As a general rule of thumb, it is suggested that the lighter weight products go on your face first, such as mists and serums. Follow them up with your heavier products, such as lotions and creams. If you do it in the opposite order, your heavy products will block your lighter ones from penetrating below the surface of your face and doing their jobs for you.
