A particularly warm autumn, known as an Indian Summer, can often damage your skin in unexpected ways. As we move back into our fall routines, we often forget to treat our faces and bodies in a way that is appropriate for the weather and not the month. There are a few things that you should keep in mind to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather without causing damage to your skin.
Treat Your Skin with the Right Products
When the weather is warm, it is very common to experience breakouts that are a result of sweat building up in the cells. When this is coupled with heavy products, the result can be significant blemishes as well as a dull tone to the face. Try to stick with products that are water-based instead of oil-based so that you are not adding additional oil to the sweat that is already permeating the top layer of your face. The lighter weight products will not only look better but they will feel more comfortable on an unusually warm day.
Don’t Forget the Sunscreen
Once September rolls around, you may not have as much time to go to the beach or pool and, as a result, let sunscreen fall away from your daily routine. However, dermatologists recommend wearing a minimum of SPF fifteen anytime that you are going to be outside for more than fifteen minutes. This means that waiting outside at the school bus stop or going out to pick apples are activities that require sunscreen. The calendar may have rolled over, but your skin is still very vulnerable to damage from the sun.
Stay Hydrated
One of the most important things you can do to protect your skin during a change of seasons is to keep it properly moisturized. This will help prevent fine lines and wrinkles as well as dry, dead cells on the surface of the face. In addition to using moisturizing products on your face, it is essential to drink enough water to hydrate from the inside out. Shoot for a minimum of eight glasses of water each day to make sure that you are maintaining a healthy, hydrated glow.
The fall can be a hectic time, when it still feels like summer, many people forget to keep up with their routines. As the seasons transition, do not forget about adequate sun protection as well as hydration for a healthy, youthful appearance.
