You may think that you are doing everything you can to prevent wrinkles on your face but there are many elements that go into caring for aging skin. In fact, there are many common skin care practices that not only do nothing to protect against wrinkles but can actually cause them. If you have gotten into any of these habits, it is time to evaluate your skin care routine and make some changes for healthy, youthful looking skin.
Time Your Routine to Avoid Wrinkles
You may have a very effective regimen of skin care products, but they are not going to work for you if you are not using them at the right time. Products that are rich in antioxidants, for example, should always be used in the morning because they will protect your skin throughout the day. Products that exfoliate your skin and promote the regeneration of skin cells will help correct your skin while you sleep. If you are simply slapping all of your products on at once in the morning or the night, you are not getting the most out of their active ingredients.
Wait on Most New Trends
It seems like there are new skin care trends coming out every day and many of them claim to fight wrinkles like no other. However, if you are following a skin care routine that works well for you, there is no reason to jump at every new trend, tempting as they may be. Wait out the new trends to see if they remain popular or if people continue to be happy with their results. Unless your dermatologist specifically recommend a new, trendy treatment, stick with what has been working well to control the aging process in your skin.
Never Skip the Sunscreen
The number one mistake that people make with regards to their aging skin is going outside without proper sun protection. There is still a common misconception that sunscreen is only necessary when someone is going to spend the day sitting out on the beach or by the pool. In reality, you must use some degree of SPF on all of your exposed skin every day. If you fail to do this, you are inviting wrinkles and other signs of aging.
